Careers Guidance / Post 16

Pupils have the skills, knowledge and personal attributes to be highly successful in their future endeavours.

Ofsted - November 2024

Brayton Academy is committed to ensuring that students receive first class guidance, support and opportunities that will help their future decision making in all aspects of further education, training, employment and higher education. This is a vital means of giving our students the skills, knowledge and understanding to manage their own lifelong learning and career development. We are currently reviewing our careers provision and will provide monthly updates on our Careers Education Curriculum. We will shortly post a link to our full careers programme (including document links), which we have cross-referenced against the National “Gatsby Benchmarks” for outstanding careers provision.

Local Colleges attend the Academy to deliver information to Year 11 students on the choices available post 16. It is vitally important that students attend as many College Open Events as possible to ensure that they have all the information necessary to make informed choices. Parents/carers are the single most important influence on their children’s career plans and the academy welcomes their support.

We have a range of additional careers experiences for students from Years 7 to 11 that range from “Dragon’s Den” entrepreneurial workshops through to details about apprenticeships that we share with every student. A representative from a local further education provider will be available to meet with students and parents to give advice about possible next steps at parents’ evenings in years 9, 10 and 11. We have exciting plans to build on our existing provision, including assemblies for all students and the launch of the “future skills questionnaire” to help measure the impact our work is having.

Whilst we promote the view that some of our students are preparing for jobs that have not been invented yet, we place importance on providing students with details about employment opportunities currently available in and around the Brayton and Selby area. Click the link below for a quiz that suggests jobs based on labour market information.
